Submission Guidelines
Poetry: we have no bias toward or against any school or style of poetry. We want poems that speak uniquely, yet strive to connect with the human condition. We love lyrical explosions and narrative meanderings, sonnets as much as free verse, experimental work as well as more traditional approaches. If you don't like lines, send us a prose poem.
Creative Non-Fiction: We are most interested in work that blurs the boundaries between the poem and the essay. Avoid the standard narrative memoir that unfolds in a neat chronological sequence, and mix things up a bit.
Photography: : we are still working up guidelines for black and white photography, so please query. We will not be accepting unsolicited work.
Interviews: by invitation only. Please, no queries or submissions.
Due to the increased volumes of submissions, we ask that you carefully follow our guidelines, or risk instant deletion
Send 4-6 poems or one creative essay, unpublished in print or on the web, to:

Include last name and type of work in the subject line. Example: Jones, Poetry Submission. If you're sending prose, indicate word count as well. Example: Smith, CNF sub, 999 words.
Please send your work as a single MS Word or RTF attachment. Please do not send in the body of an email, or send multiple attachments. failure to send work via single attachments, or to include "submission" in subject line, will result in deletion. If you can't send via an attachment, please read the the next section.
Important: we are no longer accepting snail mail submissions.
Cover letters are fine, but please leave out your past literary accomplishments; instead, give us a short bio that tells us something about you as a human being. We do our best to read the cover letter after we read the work, to avoid undue influence.
Please let us know if a piece is submitted simultaneously to another journal, and if that piece is accepted elsewhere.
Multiple submissions will be returned unread.
Please submit only once every six months.
Response time is four to six months. Feel free to query after six months.
At this time, Greatcoat will pay contributors two copies.
All rights revert to authors upon publication.
